Clark County Commission Fills NV Assembly Vacancies

The Clark County Commission has appointed two new members to the Nevada State Assembly to fill vacancies.

In a meeting that lasted just 11 minutes Friday morning, councilmembers unanimously approved the appointment of Stephanie Smith to the District 1 seat and Kyle Stephens to the District 5 seat.

District 1's seat was held by Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who joined the Clark County Commission after Tom Collins resigned his seat on that body.

Erv Nelson left his seat in District 5 to run for the State Senate.

The commission moved quickly to fill the seats in anticipation of a special session that may be called in the coming weeks.

The session would look at the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee's recommendation to increase hotel taxes in Las Vegas to fund a football stadium in the hopes of bringing the Oakland Raiders to the area.
