North Las Vegas will pay $500,000 to settle a police excessive force lawsuit filed by relatives of a 38-year-old homeless man shot and killed by a patrol officer in March 2014.
The City Council didn't publicly discuss the matter before voting Wednesday to settle the federal civil rights case filed over the death of David Robinson.
Attorney Ramzy Ladah, representing Robinson's son, David Robinson Jr., and widow, Dennia Robinson, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he was barred from commenting as a condition in the settlement.
The officer, Raymond Lopez, resigned in January 2015 following a fact-finding review of the case.
At the time of the shooting, police said David Robinson was uncooperative when Lopez stopped him a little after 1 a.m. on a street near North Las Vegas Boulevard.
