Wildfire Near Eureka 80 Percent Contained

A federal official says crews are reporting 80 percent containment of a nearly 3-square wildfire burning in central Nevada rangeland.

Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Hanefeld in Ely says the fire is burning pinyon-juniper, brush and grass in priority sage grouse habitat about 15 miles southeast of Eureka.

Hanefeld says there's no threat to private property, and no injuries have been reported.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that electricity was briefly interrupted Friday night in part of Eureka and the Newark Valley area.

The fire was spotted shortly after noon on Thursday. The cause wasn't immediately determined.

Hanefeld says almost 75 firefighters are building fire lines around the 1,912-acre fire in Eureka and White Pine counties. Containment is expected Tuesday.
