Heads up! Due to a geomagnetic storm this weekend, KNPR's signals may experience intermittent disruptions throughout the state. Our engineers are keeping a close eye on it.

Pahrump Solar Array To Open In September

A new solar array north of Pahrump will begin its operations in September, according to Valley Electric Association.

The plant is expected to generate 15 megawatts of electricity, according to the Pahrump Valley Times.

The electric co-op announced last summer it was building the facility, which spans some 80 acres of land and will be VEA's first power generating facility.

The co-op's members will be able to designate if they want to purchase power generated from the arrays specifically, with the company saying it's a way for them to participate in renewable energy without putting solar panels on their own homes.

Right now, VEA is wrapping up construction on the site, and running power lines to and from the solar array.
