Reno Brush Fire 20 Percent Contained

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Fire officials in northern Nevada say a wind-driven brush fire on the southwest edge of Reno is partially contained.

Washoe County and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said Thursday morning that the fire burned about 300 acres since Wednesday afternoon.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore said it's about 20 percent contained with no new smoke areas, though winds Thursday could kick it up again.

Crews are now working to mop up the areas around the fire and will monitor for any hot spots.

No structures are threatened. No evacuations were ordered but voluntary evacuations were recommended at one point Wednesday with a precautionary, temporary shelter set up at Reno High School.

It could take days before it's considered fully contained because of the size of area.
