Nye County To Vote On Fuel Tax

Nye County voters will decide this fall whether they want to put a fuel tax in place.

The Pahrump Valley Times reports the tax was put on the ballot during a county commission meeting last week.

State law allows for counties other than Washoe and Clark to hold ballot initiatives to decide whether or not fuel taxes may be levied.

The county estimates a fuel tax could provide around $52 million in extra funding until 2026, when it would sunset.

More than half of that money would go to the county directly for road improvement, while $20 million would go to the state for road works within Nye County.

If the proposal is passed, the tax would go into effect on January 19.
