Energy Task Force Approves Rooftop Solar Grandfathering

A Nevada panel voted to take the first steps toward securing more favorable rates for the state's early-adopter solar customers.

Members of an energy task force committee focused on rooftop solar issues voted vote Wednesday recommend "grandfathering." The policy would involves letting some customers go back to the more generous rate structure in place before the Public Utilities Commission updated it in December.

Rooftop solar companies cut jobs in Nevada after the rates changed, saying it made their business model unviable.

The committee expressed interest last month in grandfathering customers who bought their systems under the old rates.

Now that the committee has recommended grandfathering, it would be up for consideration by the full task force and could become a bill in the 2017 legislative session.
