Embattled NSHE Chancellor Klaich Retiring

Nevada System of Higher Education Regents reluctantly accepted the resignation of Chancellor Dan Klaich during a meeting Thursday morning.

Klaich came under fire after the Las Vegas Review-Journal published emails that showed Klaich maneuvering with an outside group to get a legislative committee to change the funding formula for higher education.

Many regents blamed the press for “taking comments out of context” and forcing a man “who will be hard to replace” out of office.

Both attorneys for the board stated that after reviewing emails obtained by the Review-Journal’s Bethany Barnes, and reading minutes from the 2013 legislative funding committee they saw no intent to deceive the legislature and, therefore, “No basis for action based on cause.”

Under the agreement with the regents, Klaich will be paid through the end of his contract which expires June of next year.

Chancellor Klaich teared up when he thanked the board. The final vote to accept his resignation was almost unanimous.
