Sandoval Explores Legal Options Concerning Wild Horse Population

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval is directing the state to look into legally compelling the federal government to address Nevada's wild horse population.

In a statement Monday, Sandoval accused the Bureau of Land Management of underfunding its efforts to control the wild horse population, saying Nevada has had to foot the bill where the government falls short.

Sandoval also stated his fear the wild horse population will threaten the sage grouse, which is currently part of an ongoing legal battle over its own protection.

Sandoval noted grazing allotments for wild horses in Elko County are more than 350 percent higher than what is considered to be appropriate.
