PUC Says Casinos Can Leave NV Energy But Fees Remain

Three gaming companies who applied to unplug from NV Energy’s grid will be allowed to, but at a price.

Vegas Inc reports that Wednesday, the Public Utilities Commission spelled out regulatory language, saying Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts and Wynn Las Vegas can buy energy from the open market, but they’ll still be responsible for $126.6 million in fees and additional future fees.

The companies are expected to keep looking for alternatives – likely either paying the fees, staying with NV Energy or challenging the rules in court.
