Just weeks after officials began trapping and killing beavers along the North Truckee Drain, Sparks officials have stopped trapping and are instead looking for a more humane alternative.
In November, the Nevada of Wildlife issued a permit to the city to remove the beavers that are chewing into trees and building dams that bring the potential for flooding.
KRNV-TV reports that City of Sparks spokesman Adam Mayberry says the trapping was not perceived as humane, so the city stopped killing the beavers. They are calling for anyone with an expertise on managing beavers without killing them to contact city officials.
Mayberry says trapping and relocating the beavers is not an option because beavers are territorial and there is are concerns about spreading disease.
