Nye County's animal shelter will remain open through February, thanks to a decision by the county commission.
The Pahrump Valley Times reports the commission will give the shelter more than $7,600 in funding from the county's contingency fund.
The money will go both to pay an employee working at the shelter and to food and supplies for the facility.

This isn't the first time the shelter has run into funding issues … back in September, the county had to provide a similar stopgap payment to keep the shelter up and running.
Formally, the shelter closed some time ago, but animal control officers keep bringing animals to the shelter, necessitating its continued operation.
The county is considering long-term options for the shelter and its funding.
