Kihuen Calls For Special Session On Gun Control

Congressional candidate and state Sen. Ruben Kihuen is asking his colleagues to take up a gun control measure when they meet for a special session in coming days.

The Democratic lawmaker sent a letter Sunday asking legislators to call themselves into an additional special session and ban guns for people on the federal no-fly list. Similar legislation has failed to pass Congress.

Kihuen says the measure would help keep visitors safe when they visit Las Vegas for New Year's Eve.

Gov. Brian Sandoval is expected to call lawmakers into a special session soon to consider incentives that would attract carmaker Faraday Future to Nevada. Two-thirds of the Republican-controlled Legislature would have to vote to address guns, too.

Kihuen is in a four-way Democratic primary for Nevada's 4th Congressional District seat.
