Vendor's Booth Catches Fire At Ophthalmology Convention

An ophthalmology vendor booth caught on fire Thursday night, forcing an evacuation at one of Las Vegas' largest convention centers.

The Clark County Fire Department said the blaze at the Sands Expo and Convention Center near the Strip started about 8 p.m. Thursday where an ophthalmology convention was set up.

No one was hurt but the area was evacuated.

About 30 firefighters knocked out the fire that was contained to the booth within seven minutes.

Damages are expected to be over $100,000 but the fire chief in a statement said the sprinklers and firefighters saved millions of dollars of display items at the convention area.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

A Las Vegas Sands Corporation representative could not immediately be reached.
