Judge Throws Out Petition To Repeal Nevada Tax Package

A Carson City judge has tossed out a petition that seeks to repeal the entire $1.1 billion tax package that Nevada lawmakers passed this spring.

Judge James Todd Russell dismissed a measure Thursday that was brought forth by anti-tax activist Chuck Muth, who did not show up to the hearing. Muth said he didn't attend because he assumed action was first needed on his effort to move the matter to federal court.

Muth wants to circulate a petition and create a ballot question to repeal the taxes. Muth says lawmakers passed the legislation even though voters rejected a tax measure on the November ballot.

A PAC called the Coalition for Nevada's Future challenged the petition, saying it violates the requirement that ballot measures deal with only a single subject.
