LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County Zoning Commission has approved special use permits allowing a Moapa property that has more than 200 animals to operate as a zoo.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the commission's vote Wednesday comes two months after Roos-n-More's application for the permits was denied. Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick had asked the commission to reconsider the application to allow time for county staff to visit the nine-acre property.
Roos-n-More is owned by husband and wife veterinarians Valerie and Jay Holt. The property houses monkeys, otters, kangaroos and other animals.
The couple must now adhere to a set of rules outlined by the county, including working toward zoo accreditation and undergoing a review.
Opponents of the zoo cite concerns over the zoo's finances, while others have raised money to support Roos-N-More.
