Northern Nevada Mine Applies For Expansion

The Cortez Hills underground mine near Crescent Valley is looking to expand.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Barrick Gold has filed paperwork to be able to mine at deeper levels than at present. Right now, the mine operates at a maximum depth of 3,800 feet.

The expansion would also help with ventilation in the mine.

If the plans are approved, expansion could start on the first of the year.
