NV Wildfire 50 Miles East Of Fallon Burning 6 Square Miles

FALLON, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are asking hunters and others to stay away from an area in north-central Nevada where a wildfire is burning on the edge of the Desatoya Mountains about 50 miles east of Fallon.

The Bureau of Land Management said Monday about 200 firefighters are battling the blaze was sparked by lightning Aug. 14. It's burned about 6 square miles of sage brush, grass and juniper trees south of U.S. Highway 50 southwest of Austin about 130 miles east of Reno.

No injuries have been reported and no structures are threatened, but some sage grouse habitat already has burned and some of the bird's priority habitat is threatened. The fire is burnings in part of state Wildlife Hunt Unit 184, where some seasons are open but hunters are advised to keep away.
