LAS VEGAS (AP) — Parents who pushed to change Nevada school bullying law after their 13-year-old daughter killed herself are asking a federal magistrate judge to prevent farewell notes the girl wrote from being made public.
Hailee Joy Lamberth's parents, Jason and Jennifer Lamberth, have a wrongful death lawsuit pending against Clark County School District officials.
They allege they weren't notified that their daughter was bullied at school before she shot herself dead in December 2013.
Attorney Allen Lichtenstein, representing the family, said Friday that unsealing the letters in a notebook would harm the young people who were named.
Attorneys for the school district argue the notes shed light on the family's allegations, and the public has a right to view them.
Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a law this year strengthening bullying incident reporting.
