LAS VEGAS (AP) — The sometimes bawdy and rowdy gauntlet of street performers along Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas is facing new rules.
Las Vegas city officials announced a proposed ordinance on Wednesday establishing specific zones where 27 to 38 tip-seeking performers can entertain between 3 p.m. and 2 a.m. under Fremont Street's massive video-screen awning. Entertainers will also need to register with the city.
The ordinance is expected to be introduced Aug. 5 and could reach the full City Council by its Sept. 2 meeting.
City officials worked with the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada and Fremont Street Experience LLC on the proposed rules.
Las Vegas has also been reining in the rowdy atmosphere in other ways banning people from drinking out of glass bottles and aluminum cans last year.
