LAS VEGAS (AP) — The district attorney in Las Vegas says police weren't responsible for the death of a purse-snatch suspect who fled from a shopping center, crashed a car and shot himself as officers approached more than a year ago.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson on Monday cleared officers Jeffrey Gentry and Bryce Martines in the May 2014 death of Danny Michael Wadsworth.
Wolfson says investigators found that Wadsworth fired a handgun once after robbing two women at the Town Center shopping center, and once after crashing a 2007 Pontiac sedan into another car and the center median of busy Sahara Avenue between the Las Vegas Strip and Interstate 15.
Wolfson says none of the 12 shots that Gentry and Martines fired after they heard the shot in the vehicle hit Wadsworth.
