LGBT Center Teaches Students Sex Ed

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Gay and Lesbian Community Center is offering free sex education classes to high school students as an alternative to the Clark County School District's abstinence-based sex ed.

The Las Vegas Sun reports many current and former students from the school district have criticized the district's sex ed policies in recent months. They say teachers skim over important topics and refuse to answer questions.

The LGBT center offers classes for students from ages 13 to 18 with parental permission.

One of the teachers, Dr. Guy Cooper, says he wants students to feel like they are talking to a friend. He says the classes are meant to protect and inform children.

The Clark County School District is currently in the process of re-examining its sex ed curriculum.
