Harry Reid's Nevada Appearance is 1st Since January Accident

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, in his first public appearance in Nevada since injuring his face in a New Year's Day exercising accident and announcing his retirement late last month, said a tough road lies ahead for completing a highway between Phoenix and Las Vegas.

A crowd gathered Monday for a groundbreaking of what could be the first piece of the corridor. Reid says there's a shortage of federal funding and everyone would need to work harder to come up with other ways to ensure the project gets finished.

Monday's event aimed to tout the start of construction of the long-sought Interstate 11, a 15-mile stretch between Las Vegas and Phoenix that would send travelers around Boulder City near the Hoover Dam rather than through it.
