Books, meet festival.

Like books? Oh, do you ever! What a coincidence! Desert Companion will be part of the Vegas Valley Book Festival, Nov. 5-6 at the historic Fifth Street School downtown. Editor Andrew Kiraly is moderating two panels that are sure to be lively.

At 11:30 a.m. Nov.5, Andrew will head up a discussion titled, "Can't Somebody Get Vegas Right? The Truth (and Fiction) About Las Vegas." He'll discuss the challenges and travails about portraying Las Vegas in fiction along with authors Heather Skyler, Claire Vaye Watkins, Rick Lax and David Philip Mullins.

At 2 p.m. Nov. 6, Andrew will moderate "Eating Tomorrow: What's New for 2012 and Beyond," a discussion of what the future holds for the culinary scene in Las Vegas, featuring chef Rick Moonen and dining critic John Curtas.
