Last week Gov. Brian Sandoval signed an agreement with Poland to set up trade offices in Nevada.
The agreement was a result of work for several years now between the Nevada businesses and the consulate of Poland in Las Vegas. The purpose is to expand Nevada business opportunities in Poland and Europe.
Sandoval signed the agreement during a visit to Poland, the fourth stop on a five-country trade mission.
"With a pledge to open offices at the University of Nevada's Innovation Center, Poland's strong economic growth, industrious population and investment in innovation and market expansion provide Nevada with a unique opportunity," Sandoval said in a statement.
John Petkus is the head of the mission from the consulate of Poland in Las Vegas. He told KNPR's State of Nevada that the agreeement came after years of building trust.
He also said it is just the beginning.
"The relationship with Poland will continue to grow with Nevada not only now but hopefully in the next few years," Petkus said.
Three Polish firms have already committed to coming to Nevada, according to Petkus. He said the agreement is a "two-way street" and Nevada companies looking for a foothold in the European Union markets will be able to use Poland has a spot to set up shop.
Also as a result of the move, the Polish American Chamber of Commerce decided to move its annual conference from Chicago to Nevada.
