Nevada Leads Others In Cutting Emissions From Electricity Generation

Solar and other renewable energy sources have pushed Nevada to the top of the list for reducing greenhouse gas emissions

A new report says Nevada is outperforming other states when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions created by generating electricity.

The report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance says the state generates more electricity, on average, from renewable sources, and emits fewer greenhouse gases as a result.

Nathan Serota wrote the report. He told KNPR's State of Nevada that retiring coal and using more more natural gas and renewable energy has helped.

He said the state has doubled its renewable energy use between 2008 and 2013.

"It's important to note that large scale renewables have been the largest source of renewable energy growth in the state," Serota said.

He also said more large scale solar projects, which are set to go online, will help even more.
