California Utility: Tens Of Thousands Lack Power

Pacific Gas & Electric is reporting tens of thousands of power outages in San Francisco Bay Area as one of the windiest and rainiest storms in five years hit Northern California.

The utility says the outages are spread across the Bay Area. Officials weren't immediately available to give a specific number.

A spokesman for Bay Area Rapid Transit says a PG&E transformer appeared to have malfunctioned near the system's Montgomery Street station. Jim Allison says the station has been shut to trains.
