"Wild Mustang" Robin Goes To Washington

What were you doing when you were 13? Hanging out at the Dairy Queen with your friends? Maybe you made a lamp in shop class?

Well, prepare to be humbled. Las Vegas middle school student Robin Warren just filed her first officially recognized petition at the U.S. Capitol.

Warren collected 250,000 signatures from all over the world for her Wild Horse and Burro Initiative, an effort that would protect the animals by changing their designation from “feral” to “wild.”

Her initiative would also win endangered species status for the horses, protecting them from hunters. Some supporters are now calling her “Wild Mustang Robin.”

So how did she find her calling as an animal rights activist? And in middle school? And what’s left for her to do to achieve her mission of winning protections for the wild horses and burros of Nevada?
