The Last Straw? Southern Nevada Water Authority Builds Third Water Intake

First there was one and then two. With the drought, the Southern Nevada Water Authority has been constructing a so-called "third straw"or water intake to bring water from Lake Mead to Las Vegas. The cuts in water allocation because of the drought have prompted the water authority to add an emergency project that will be built this winter. The extension to the first straw will allow water to be drawn from lower in the lake.
