Ahead Of Potential Special Session, Nevada May Appoint New Legislators

Nevada could have five new lawmakers this week as the state fills vacancies in preparation for a potential legislative session to approve an NFL stadium funding plan.

The Clark County Commission is meeting Wednesday to appoint replacements for former Assembly members Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Erv Nelson.

The Washoe County Commission is meeting Thursday to appoint replacements for former Senate members Greg Brower and the late Debbie Smith. They will also name a replacement for former Assemblyman Pat Hickey.

The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee is recommending lawmakers raise the hotel tax in the Las Vegas area to help fund a football stadium and an expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Gov. Brian Sandoval is reviewing the recommendations and could call lawmakers into a special session in coming weeks.
