Stadium Update: New Sites, Tax District Proposed

The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee met today to continue hashing out plans for a proposed NFL stadium in the area.

Las Vegas Sands and Majestic, the main groups pushing for the project, have identified seven locations where they feel the stadium could go, four of which are primary sites.

Primary locations include the Bali Hai golf course and a parcel on Russell Road, both immediately west of McCarran International Airport.

Two other primary sites are the current home of the Wild Wild West Casino near Tropicana Avenue and the 15, and the 42 acre parcel adjacent to the UNLV campus at Tropicana and Koval Lane.

Three secondary locations, all farther away from the Strip, include the Wynn golf course, the MGM festival grounds and Cashman Center.

Also discussed was a potential sales tax district to raise money for the stadium & any additional police services needed for it.

A recent poll from KTNV showed 55 percent of Clark County residents are against spending tax dollars on the stadium, whose developers are asking for public money to fund the project.
