LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada legislative panel has approved a plan to reorganize the Clark County School District, the nation's fifth-largest.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the panel of nine lawmakers unanimously voted for the plan and its draft regulations.
The plan would create individual precincts at all 357 schools. Principals would have more control over budgets and staffing.
There will be six meetings scheduled for the public to weigh in.
Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky and a consultant will hammer out details of the plan over the next few months.
According to Skorkowsky, the district can pay for the reorganization until February 2017.
Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a bill into law last year that called for studying the possibility of breaking up the Clark County School District by the 2018-19 school year.
