ABBA, Queen, Motown — just a few of the bands and institutions Broadway has centered different musicals around. In the industry, they’re known as “jukebox musicals,“ relying on popular songs more than original compositions.

They’re heavily represented on both Broadway and in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday, the Smith Center debuts its second jukebox musical of the current season, though it’s a very different example of the genre. And that might be because the artist whose music populates the production is not an obvious candidate for a Broadway musical.

The music is from Bob Dylan and the production is called Girl From North Country.

Guest: Simon Hale, orchestrator, arranger and music supervisor, Girl from North Country
