FILE - The site, foreground, on the outskirts of Victorville, Calif., of a proposed station for a high-speed rail line to Las Vegas, is seen with Interstate 15 in the background, on Jan. 25, 2012.

This is a special program co-hosted by State of Nevada's Joe Schoenmann and Larry Mantle of LAist's AirTalk.

For years, Las Vegas was a destination for many Southern Californians to get away for a long weekend or a quick marriage.

Now, it's increasingly a place where they're moving.

Why is Nevada such an attractive alternative to Southern California, and what kind of impact has the influx of new residents had on Las Vegas and surrounding communities?

Guests: David Damore, interim director, The Lincy Institute and Brookings Mountain West; Michael Green, history professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
