Hundreds of new laws went into effect on July 1 in Nevada

On Tuesday, the Fourth of July, we celebrate our declaration of independence from Great Britain. So for 247 years, we’ve been doing it on our own. Our own form of government, our own laws.

Sometimes, that can have better outcomes than others, especially when people who aren’t professional lawmakers make those laws.

Nevada’s legislature concluded earlier this month. And there’s been a lot of news about what Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed, but what did he sign into law?

And how do you feel about things like the new requirement for gun dealers to provide gun locks with each gun sold? About protections for women who come here from states with abortion bans or strict laws?

Guests: Holly Welborn, executive director, Children’s Advocacy Alliance; Dana Gentry, reporter, Nevada Current; John Packham, associate dean, UNR School of Medicine
