The Mysteries of the Grasshopper Swarm

The grasshopper invasion in Las Vegas might have felt abnormal. It certainly appeared that way in the numerous photos and videos that went viral. 

 

But here’s the thing: It’s not that unusual -- it’s what grasshoppers do. 

 

Why they do it is another question, and one Derek Woller, an entomologist based in Phoenix with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, hopes to answer.
