If you visit the website for a business called “ Adler Dynamics,” you’ll see these words in bold letters: “Intelligent Solutions at the Speed of Thought.”
Adler Dynamics involves drones and construction sites and precision and efficiency.
It’s actually a business-idea-in-progress, a creation of UNLV student Kyle Kimsey.
Kimsey is the winner of a regional qualifying round for the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. The awards are sponsored by the “Entrepreneur’s Organization,” which is based in Alexandria, Virginia.
He now goes onto the national competition in Miami.
To win the competition, Kimsey had to face a "Shark Tank" like questioning session.
"Since I had been doing this company for a year, this project, I knew it all," he said, "I knew it all about my project, so I wasn't as nervous about the material."
Kimsey said his project started when he met with his project manager who had a background in construction. The two of them developed a way to use drones to make construction sites run more efficiently.
"We wanted to try and use the technology out and analytics to be able to allow these projects that are growing ever bigger to be able to be really efficient in what they do," he explained.
Kimsey said the drones would allow a project manager at a large construction site to have eyes on many activities at once from safety concerns to the accuracy of a concrete pour.
"It's endless and it grows everyday the ideas you get and the technology is growing at such a rapid pace," he said.
Kimsey is aware of the 'Big Brother' aspect of the idea, but he said workers will be more efficient when they feel they are being watched.
"The general idea is they don't really care what they're doing as long as they're doing the right job," he said, "There have been some incidents with construction where the subcontractors didn't do the right thing and it cost money to the project."
Kimsey is working on a pilot project for the construction drones overseas.
