Governor Brian Sandoval has signed into law five measures meant to spur the opening of medical marijuana facilities around the state.
Democratic State Sen. Richard “Tick” Segerblom of championed the new measures and drew support from Republicans, including fellow Las Vegas resident, Senator Patricia Farley.
One of the bills addresses marijuana and the banking industry.
"Our legislation is all very pro-business," he told KNPR's State of Nevada. "Let the marketplace work and keep the government out of it."
Another bill would legalize the production of industrial hemp.
While Segerblom said he's unsure how the production would boost business in Nevada, the bill would allow farmers to test growing programs in conjunction with state colleges and universities.
