Chinese Heritage, Tony Hsieh And The Reinvention Of Downtown

When Tony Hsieh of Zappos announced his plans for Downtown Project, he was hailed as a visionary. Critics and proponents have weighed in since then, describing the effort as everything from gentrification to transformational.

But author Eric Liu has a different take. He thinks Hsieh's effort to revitalize downtown is uniquely Chinese. And he can find evidence of Chinese heritage not just in Hsieh's work, but also in the sculpture of Maya Lin and the work of other Chinese Americans.

So what does Chinese culture add to American society? And how does living in America affect Chinese heritage?

Eric Liu will visit Las Vegas this weekend as part of Catalyst Week.
