The Bundy family and their supporters in the Patriot movement have been emboldened by the standoff in April, says a new reportfrom the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group charges that the federal government has mishandled the whole Bundy episode, starting with the two decades in which the Bureau of Land Management acquiesced in Rancher Cliven Bundy's refusal to pay grazing fees owed to the federal government. The standoff has given the militia movement new vigor because of this so-called "victory." The government, say the report's authors, have totally misunderstood the problems of the war in the West.
