Las Vegas Springs Preserve

Since the late 90's the plan has always been to open the Las Vegas Springs Preserve this year. According to the Water Authority however, it was prohibited from officially breaking ground until a 29 million dollar federal grant application to the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act was approved. While waiting it's been investing millions in operational facilities that could also be used for public education. The federal grant was approved in fall last year and the construction contract was signed a month ago. So yesterday the Springs Preserve held its official groundbreaking as part of an ongoing campaign to change Las Vegan's attitude toward water. KNPR's Ky Plaskon reports.
