Trump Avoids Public Criticism Of Duterte's Drug War While In Philippines

President Trump is in the Philippines Monday, wrapping up his trip to Asia by meeting with world leaders at the ASEAN Summit. On Sunday Trump met with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and avoided publicly criticizing Duterte for his war on drugs, which has left thousands dead in what human rights groups have called an extra-judicial campaign of persecution.

Here & Now‘s Jeremy Hobson talks with Sheila Coronel (@SheilaCoronel), co-founder of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism and current director of the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia University. Her research on extra-judicial killings and the Philippine police was recently published in the book “A Duterte Reader.”
