LAS VEGAS (AP) — The overseers of Nevada's state higher education system have voted to conduct a national search for the next University of Nevada Las Vegas president but also to give acting President Marta Meana a chance to be considered.
After the abrupt resignation of Len Jessup as UNLV’s president last year, regents appointed Marta Meana, a psychology professor and administrator, as the acting president.
UNLV has earned the highest status among U.S. research institutions under the Carnegie Classification of Institutes of Higher Education.
At a Nevada System of Higher Education meeting Monday, the board of regents approved UNLV Honors College Dean Marta Meana as acting president of UNLV.
Regent JT Moran was the only dissenting vote, saying the board didn’t have enough say in her departure.
The dean of UNLV’s Honors College could soon become the acting president of the university.
The Nevada Board of Regents has scheduled a vote on whether to name Marta Meana as the acting leader of UNLV as part of a special meeting on June 4.
