Nevada Conservatory Theater has a new production of a classic musical based on an even more classical play. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is based on the plays of Plautus - the Roman comedian.
The play "A Raisin in the Sun" took a harsh look at an African-American family struggling to succeed in the 1950s, held back by the color barrier and their own foibles. The play itself was also groundbreaking: it was the first Broadway play written by a black woman, and led by a black director.
Super Summer Theatre launches its 36th season with the classic musical, "Annie." Based on the comic strip, "Little Orphan Annie," the show is set in the Great Depression and tells the story of the optimistic red-haired orphan who is rescued by the millionaire Daddy Warbucks.
It's a night of Broadway showtunes when the Las Vegas Philharmonic performs hits by that favorite songwriting duo, Rodgers & Hammerstein. The LV Phil will perform tunes from "The Sound of Music," "The King and I" and "South Pacific," among others.
