The FBI in Las Vegas announced this week they are launching a public corruption campaign in Nevada.

Special Agent in Charge Spencer Evans said most public officials are honest, dedicated civil servants, however there are some who choose to abuse the public’s trust.

"Common examples of public corruption include bribery, kickbacks, campaign finance fraud or extortion," he said. "Sometimes it might even mean no action is taken at all, such as when an official chooses to take no action at all in exchange for compensation."

Evans said the FBI chose this time to launch its public corruption campaign because of the “transition” in government following the election.

"And so on the heels of those elections, you get some folks who are on their way out and some folks on their way in. Some people might not have felt comfortable in what they were seeing. And now that they are out of government, might feel more inclined to do so," he said.

The FBI did not disclose if there were currently any active corruption cases in Nevada.

Digital billboards with the website tips.fbi.gov began displaying across the city and state on Wednesday.
