Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, is warning owners of 276,000 older vehicles to stop driving them after Takata air bags apparently exploded, killing three more people.

As you prepare for the busy holiday travel season, be aware of an urgent stop-drive warning issued to owners of older Dodge and Chrysler vehicles.

The warning has been issued for nearly a quarter of a million 2005 to 2010 Chrysler Magnum station wagons, Dodge Challenger coupes, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans with original driver-side Takata airbags.

Chris Freeman is the manager of Takata recall programs and said the airbags need to be replaced because parts degrade over time.

“What happens in a crash if the parts inside have deteriorated, even in a minor crash, parts of the airbag can break apart and come flying through the airbag toward the driver or passenger, and that can result in serious injury or death," he said.

If you have one of these cars, you can check if your Takata air bag needs to be replaced by inputting your car information at checktoprotect.org.

The dealer will pick up your car and repair it at no cost to you.
