How would you describe yourself to voters?

In 1984 I suddenly found myself a single parent raising two children and working very hard to provide for us. I owned and managed many successful business in Southern California during that time. I moved to Northern Nevada 21 years ago after my children were grown and starting their own families. I have worked in the hospitality industry here for the past 21 years and during that time have devoted most of my free time volunteering in the community. I serve on County Boards, Reno City Boards, RTC Board, Reno Police SAVE program and the Washoe County medical reserve corps. Giving back to the community is very important to me and us my passion.

What do you see as the top issues in this campaign?

We have many pressing issues facing our state. Number one is climate change and our serious drought. Affordable housing is also at the top of the list. We must also stay on top of our education system, growing homeless population, opiate addiction and raising crime rate.

In your opinion, how would you rate the state’s response to the pandemic? Why?

I believe that Nevada did a good job in responding to the pandemic. In the early stages little was known about COVID 19 and the state put public health first. Looking back and lessons learned we could have done things differently but with the information we had at the time I believe it was handled appropriately.

Education and local government officials have long asked lawmakers to change the way the state assesses property taxes. That includes raising the current tax threshold. Should lawmakers consider raising those thresholds? If not, what is the best way for governments to raise money for local programs?

I do not usually support raising taxes or thresholds because we are already overtaxed. I also believe that education should be our number one goal for the future of our children. In order to achieve this we must all pitch in to support our education system for a brighter future. Our young people are the visionary leaders of tomorrow and we must ensure they have the education and tools to lead us forward. I believe that raising the threshold and ensuring the proceeds goes towards education will help accomplish this goal.
