The Economy, Public Safety, Education, and Government Overreach.

In your opinion, how would you rate the state’s response to the pandemic? Why?

Poor. Governor Sisolak put Nevada at the top of every bad list in America, including unemployment rates, crime rates, graduation rates, and suicide rates. Our casino industry was hit hard, and small businesses closed or tried to juggle his arbitrary capacity orders. Even worse, California's Governor had a more limited indoor masking requirement. And it's not over, to say the Governor may have overstepped the boundaries of his office with his ongoing state of emergency to deal with the pandemic, is an understatement.

Education and local government officials have long asked lawmakers to change the way the state assesses property taxes. That includes raising the current tax threshold. Should lawmakers consider raising those thresholds? If not, what is the best way for governments to raise money for local programs?

Our property tax system is complex, convoluted, and probably could use a complete overhaul. It may make sense to decouple residential and commercial properties in the overall calculation since they tend to respond differently to our economic cycles. It would also make sense to keep some protections in place so when the government causes rampant inflation as we have now, homeowners and renters alike, have some protection.
