Ely, one of the most remote towns in the lower 48 states, has long been known for its links to mining and outdoor recreation.
Now, it wants to become known as a destination for filmmakers and movie buffs.
The third annual Ely Film, Art and Music Festival starts Friday and runs through the weekend. Over three days, the festival will highlight a dozen films shot in Nevada over the last century.
Shadrach Robertson is the chair of the festival and the First Gentleman of Ely. He says the festival will be expanding its scope for the first time this year, featuring 12 feature films, multiple short films, but also music and art.
Ely was one of the first cities to leverage its public art as an economic driver through tourism, he says, and the festival will celebrate that history.
