Governor, Top Democrat Call Nevada Death Penalty Repeal Dead

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada's governor and the top Democrat in the Legislature are declaring efforts to repeal the state's death penalty law dead.

Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, issued a statement Thursday saying he saw "no path forward" for a bill that passed the Assembly on party lines with Democrats in support but hadn't gotten a hearing in the Senate ahead of a Friday deadline. Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro says lawmakers couldn't reach a consensus.
